I personally prefer type A than type B; sorry to be the outcast, because I just find it more organized. I mean, the Shogi-Dojo-24 interface is okay, but on my computer, it's cut-off half way and I can never see the 2nd player's ranking or full username. I understand that if we go through that route, that is going to be fixed (hopefully), but I just find having a list of tables easier. Especially when if there's a lot of players, if you're trying to tell your friend "I'm playing at Table 23", it's much easier to find "Table 23" than a username like "killmybigduck94" amidst of all the other users. Plus, I also HIGHLY recommend colorcoding the rankings like PlayOK because I find that VERY useful and to-the-point. Also, it's kind of a way to show-off and set an achievement... "I'm going to get Orange colored by tonight."

Just my opinion. What do you all think?

This could be solved with a search function. If there are a large amount of players, then you can just search for your friend's name and then possibly jump right to the table. Alternatively, if we get a large amount of players, the difficulty in finding "Table 23" and "killmybigduck94" will be the same, I think.

This is what dan/kyu ranks are for. ;) "I'm going to hit 1-dan tonight." Not only that but this kind of system makes it easier to discuss your strength to other people in the shogi (and igo) world. When I talk to people who don't play on PlayOK, I can't tell them that I'm "green" because they don't understand my strength. And telling them I'm 1400 means nothing, either.

(should we change the rank according to the rating as SC24? Or should we give the rank according to his past record as in real professional players? It'd be cool if we give some title names to strongest players.)

I think it might be easier to give rank according to rating, but I would like to see a system that ranks according to past records.

If the table numbers are in order, I bet you bucks that it's easier to find 23 than killmybigduck94.

While that might be true, I just find a colored square very distinctly visual.

And if the names are in alphabetical order, it would be just as easy.

The player list should be such that we can sort the names in alphabetical order, in rating order, or any other useful orders. (maybe swichable by clicking the top of each column) So I think it won't be so hard to find someone from the list.

Yes, dan/kyu ranks are for giving everyone some additional motivation.
But coloring seems very good, too.
How about changing the color according to dan/kyu rank.
(provided that dan/kyu rank is in accordance with the rating.)

Other than putting a colored square in front of the name,
I think it'd be cool if we color the frame of one's avatar with the rank color.

How do we allot the colors?
Gold, Silver, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Light Blue,,,, :D

Yeah Hidetchi-san, I like your idea. As for the colors (or another form of visual indicator), I have 2 proposals:

1) Colors: This can be listed as Gold, Silver, Bronze, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Lavender, etc. and maybe shogi-piece shapes for Dan-players while regular circle or block for kyu-players.

2) Small shogi pieces: For Dan players, we can give out glass pieces or marble pieces while kyu-players can get tagged with little normal, wooden pieces that are marked from Fu, Kyo, Keima, Gin, Kin, Kaku, Hisha, Tokin, Narikyo, Narikei, Narigin, Uma, Ryu, Gyoku, Oushou (exactly 15).

What you all think?

I like the idea of using small shogi pieces to indicate rating. What if it was an upside-down colored piece for kyu holders, and a rightside-up colored piece for dan holders?

The weak point of SC24 is lack of tournament management function. The new online website may be okay without that function at first, but I think it'd better to added later on.

Maybe in stead of making game 'tables', people should just insert the type of game they want to play, and the system matches them automatically, and makes a corresponding table with it (although this requires large amount of online people). Another option that should be implemented is challenging a specific player (for if you want to play your friend or something).

That would be interesting, but I don't think there is enough space to put kanji in it looking nicely. If we do that, the pieces will get a little too large, and it'd be a bit of an eyesore if those pieces are shown all the way down in the list. :D

How about using kanji pieces only for title holders?
Here's a mock-up image :P
(Oh, but what if a player gets more than one title?)

Well, but actually we don't have to discuss this kind of things so soon.
We can talk about it later. We have to wait for kota-sensei to launch his first prototype anyway. :)
But,,, yeah, it's pretty fun to talk about this kind of things dreaming of the future!

I was thinking that we only need "challenge" mode. I didn't think of automatic match making. Do we really need it?
