Hello,

I have just noticed:

There is no title holder in the A-class of the Juni sen (where the challenger of Meijin Habu will be found).
But there are three title holders (almost 50% of the top seven) in the B1-class
It will be difficult for Watanabe to get out of this pulk of heavy weights

It is also interesting to note that Tanigawa and Takahashi, who could be considered as veterans are doing extremely well.
And Sato, who was one of the top three players for quite some time is on bottom place. Come on Sato sensei, you can do it.

Thomas

Watanabe is doing pretty well. Not as well as Kubo (though he did deliver Kubo's only loss so far), but he's doing a bit better than Fukaura, and is tied with Matsuo 7-dan. I think he has a good shot at getting into A-Class this year.

A-Class is looking good for Tanigawa. It would be exciting to see next year's Meijin match be between Tanigawa and Habu!

Satou just got his first A-Class win against Moriuchi.

And Miura defeated Takahashi, giving him 5 wins and 2 losses. If Tanigawa loses his next game, Miura and Tanigawa will be tied.

Another update: The 11th B1-Class match was played today, and Watanabe won; Kubo lost. They are now tied for the top spot in B1 with a score of 8-2.

Watanabe finally made it to A-Class!

http://mainichi.jp/enta/shougi/news/201 ... 8000c.html

EDIT: Oh, I wonder why Mainichi is saying he'll promote? It seems that Matsuo 7-dan is still close behind him.

EDIT 2: Oh this article says he's 1 game away from it. The writer of the first article must have forgotten to include that.

I don't know the tie-breaking procedure but he must be guaranteed at least one of the 2 spots

This is rather obvious, isn't it?

Two players on top with 9 wins against two losses and two spots in the A-class.

Go Watanabe! But I am sorry for Sato. I hope he will recover.

Well if both Kubo and Watanabe lose their last game, and Matsuo wins, they'll all be tied. Unless the higher ranked player promotes in case of a tie.
